Tara McPherson

Tara McPherson is an american artist.
She creates art about people and their feelings.
Her characters always refer to an idealized innocence with a strange stare in their eyes, also they give us a great memory about childhood experiences and fantasies. Those images turn out to be provoking and atractive. People and relationships are a habitual themes of her work.





She exhibits her paintings and serigraphs in art galleries all over around the world, gaining fame in the underground circuit.
She has created a lot of posters for rock bands such as Beck, Modest Mouse and Melvin.
Her work also includes the creation of toys with companies like Kidrobot, Dark Horse and Toy2R; the illustration of comics and covers for DC Vertigo; advertising and editorial illustrations for companies such as Wyden+Kennedy and Spin Magazine; and teaching a class at Parsons in NYC.



McPherson´s art has been included in books such as Lost Constellations; The Art of Tara McPherson Vol II, Lonely Heart: The Art of Tara McPherson, Fables: 1001 Nights of Snowfall, The Art of Modern Rock, Illusive 2, Illustration Now!, SWAG and SWAG 2, etc.


She has lectured at Semi-Permanent, Offset, Institute of Comtemporary Art of London, OFFF, School of Visual Arts, AIGA NYC, AIGA Austin, Columbus College of Art and Design, Parsons, The University of Arizona, MADE in Edmonton and Foleys London. Her art has also been featured in the Oscar Award winning film Juno.



Tara was born in San Francisco, California in 1976 and raised in Los Angeles. She received her BFA from Art Center in Pasadena in August 2001 with honors in Illustration and a minor in Fine Art. She interned at RoughDraft Studios, working on Matt Groening´s "Futurama" during College.


She has featured in Esquire, Vanity Fair, Playboy, Sony Magazine, Bust, Magnet, Elle, Marie Claire, Hi-Fructose, Juxtapoz, Clutter, Spin, MTV, Current TV, Swindle, CBC Radio, Super7, Inked, NY Press, LA Times, PBS, Paste, HOW, Step, Communication Arts, Society of Illustrators, American Illustration, Metal Hammer, International Tatoo Art, AIGA Seattle Times; LA Weekly, Gothamist, DC Comics, Punk Planet; Savage Tatoo and many more.
