"Las Tortas de la Barda"

"Tortas de la Barda"

The “Torta de la barda” was created for the first time in Tampico, Tamaulipas; its creator was Mr. Jose Maria Bracamontes.

He had the fabulous idea to sell tortas next to a wall by the train rails and the wharf of the city. You can find it near to market zone.

Soon in spite of the success obtained by this tortas, were spread trough the whole city and the suburbs.

Nowadays this tortas are known in everywhere like tortas de la barda. The importance of this tortas in Tampico’s Society is the identity acquired compared to other tortas styles from different places in Mexican Republic, such as Tortas Ahogadas from Guadalajara, Jalisco.

Currently and since several decades ago, this kind of tortas became the preferred ones in the region as they turned into a symbol from the culinary point of view.

Now, big supermarkets, not only national but also international, include this product in its bakery line or prepared food.

I think that this is cool, especially because I hadn´t heard about this food, despite that "tortas de la barda" is a Mexican food. I like because is about the Claudia´s life and as we know, she is from Tampico so, I suppose that she can tell us about its taste, because in the photo has a delicious aspect.
Also I think that is interesting because our country has an incredible, delicious wide of food (that I love) and a lot of them have had a similar origin.

Also the article tell us how Jose Maria Bracamontes!!! has the simple and faboulous idea of the Torta!! The picture that Claudia shares with us, personally has a lot of ingredients, cause I dont like to mix much ingredients!!!
However many people likes this kind of food!

It´s good for Mexican people do something that can be exported to other places, nevertheless I´m sure we can improve those “tortas”, in fact in my opinion, they don´t look so good.

But now, looking at that picture I can say those "Tortas de la barda" look so delicious and I´m sure that if I travel to Tampico soon I´m gonna try to taste them, because the best way to meet a place is knowing its culture and food of course! (:

I like this articule because, I really love the gastronomy of cities, countries, etc.

I've never tasted Tortas de la Barda but i would like to eat.

I think these Tortas are very similar to Tortas Ahogadas that are representative to the Jalisco's Food. I really like Tortas Ahogadas and I considered that is a part important to Guadalajara city. I've tasted many times those Tortas and I've had the oportunity to tasted in Jalisco, but I want to accepted that they are very spicy.
